Counselling ServicesOur counselling services seek to assist students with their personal lives and studies and strive to make the living and studying conditions in the institutes of higher learning better. We work towards creating better opportunities for all. The social situation of many students is determined by financial dependency and the necessity to fill their individual budgets through employment. Being a student is also accompanied with a large number of special legal and social rules. Oftentimes, the competing needs to study effectively and to provide for material needs can cause problems. These problems themselves often further affect the ability to study. Due to still-existing barriers students with disabilities or chronic illness are often hindered from self-determined participation in life at or around institutes of higher learning. While studying, a lot is going on psychologically. Leaving one’s parents, the development of a contoured adult identity, and solving problems and achieving success on one’s own are all part of the student experience. It has been extensively researched that persons have a special susceptibility to a disturbance of development in biographical transition processes. Please do not hesitate to contact us when things in life are not going well. We know what it’s like. Please come by when problems arise on the horizon. For counselling regarding problems with your studies, please contact the counselling service at your institute of higher learning. The New Wegweiser 2011/2012In our brochure Wegweiser (in English: “directory”), the Studentenwerk Potsdam publishes on a yearly basis an orientation guide for the social surroundings in Potsdam, Brandenburg an der Havel, and Wildau. |
