You can work for 140 full days or 280 half-days (new regulation since 01.03.2024) without having to obtain permission. Activities that exceed this limit need to be coordinated with the Foreigners Office and the Employment Agency.

Scientific or student assistant activities are allowed for an unlimited period of time. But they should be discussed with the Foreigners Office in advance as well.

Self-employment is only possible in exceptional cases and only to a limited extent, e.g. in terms of activities as interpreter or language teacher.

Internships also count as regular work - even if the internship unpaid! Exceptions are compulsory internships, which are a mandatory part of your studies.

If it is not a compulsory internship, every day of the internship will be deducted from your 140-day credit. You will need the approval of the Immigration Office and the Employment Agency for an internship if you have already worked 140 days.

Do you attend a language course or are you part of the Studienkolleg program? Then you may only work under these following conditions:

  • The work is in the lecture-free time
  • You have an agreement from the Immigration Office and the Employment Agency

Our student job placement will help you find out what your options are during a personal consultation.

Privacy Policy Job Placement

Thank you for your interest in our student job placement service. We take the protection of your private data very seriously and treat the data entrusted to us in strict confidence in accordance with the applicable data protection regulations and handle it responsibly. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you about how we implement the provisions of data protection at the Studentenwerk Potsdam and which personal data we process within the framework of the Student Job Placement Service.

1. Name and contact details of the data controller and the company data protection officer

Studentenwerk Potsdam, Babelsberger Straße 02, 14473 Potsdam (referred to as "we" in the text), is the data controller within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"). Our company data protection officer can be reached at the above address or at datenschutz[at]studentenwerk-potsdam.de.

2. Collection and storage of personal data as well as type and purpose and their use

The activities of the Studentenwerk's job placement service are limited to the placement of job offers for students at the universities in Brandenburg, Potsdam, and Wildau. We therefore only process data that you have provided to us in connection with your application for job placement. These are name, date of birth, gender, nationality, qualification, university, field of study, matriculation, address, telephone number, e-mail address, the certificate of enrollment and for students from non-EU countries: Residence permit, duration of work permit and work permit. Job placement usually takes place online via the job portal on our website.

We process your personal data only for the purpose of student job placement. The legal basis for this is Art. 6 (1) lit b) DSGVO, which permits the processing of data for the fulfillment of a contract or pre-contractual measures. Insofar as we obtain consent for the processing of your personal data, Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a) DSGVO serves as the legal basis.

Your personal data will be deleted or blocked as soon as the purpose for storing it no longer applies. This is particularly the case if you no longer wish to use our mediation services. Storage may also take place if this has been provided for by the European or national legislator in Union regulations, laws or other regulations to which the responsible party is subject. Data will also be blocked or deleted if a storage period prescribed by the aforementioned standards expires, unless there is a need for further storage of the data for the conclusion or performance of a contract.

3. Transfer of data to third parties

Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties for purposes other than those listed below. The data is stored internally and passed on to recipients within the Studentenwerk Potsdam. In principle, students receive the contact information of employers for the purpose of contacting them independently. However, students' data may also be passed on to employers. A transfer to a third country neither takes place nor is it intended by us.

4. Your rights

You have the right:

  • in accordance with Art. 7 (3) DSGVO, to revoke your consent, once given, at any time vis-à-vis us. This has the consequence that we may no longer continue the data processing and thus the job placement task, which was based on this consent, for the future;

  • in accordance with Art. 15 DSGVO, to request information about your personal data processed by us.

  • In accordance with Art. 16 DSGVO, to demand the correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data stored by us without delay;

  • pursuant to Art. 17 DSGVO, to request the erasure of your personal data stored by us, unless the processing is necessary for the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and information, for compliance with a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest, or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims;

  • pursuant to Art. 18 DSGVO, to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data, insofar as the accuracy of the data is disputed by you, the processing is unlawful, but you object to its erasure and we no longer require the data, but you need it for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims or you have objected to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 DSGVO;

  • pursuant to Art. 20 DSGVO, to receive your personal data that you have provided to us in a structured, common and machine-readable format or to request the transfer to another controller; and

  • complain to a supervisory authority in accordance with Art. 77 DSGVO. As a rule, you can contact the supervisory authority of your usual place of residence or workplace or the alleged infringement or our company headquarters for this purpose;

  • object to the processing of your personal data pursuant to 21 DSGVO, provided that your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6 (1) p. 1 lit. f DSGVO and there are grounds for your objection arising from your particular situation.

When exercising your rights other than in writing, we ask for your understanding that we may require evidence from you proving that you are the person you claim to be.

5. No automated decision making

There is no automated decision-making in individual cases pursuant to Art. 22 DSGVO, i.e. the decision on your request for job placement is not based exclusively on automated processing
